SunSpec Alliance and MESA Announce Joint ESNA Workshop for Energy Storage System (ESS) Communications and Smart Grid Standards and Testing
Workshop to be held Tuesday, October 13, 2015: 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM,
At Energy Storage North America (ESNA), San Diego Convention Center
San Jose and San Francisco, CA, September 9, 2015 – The SunSpec Alliance (SunSpec) and the MESA Standards Alliance (MESA) are pleased to announce they are co-producing a workshop at Energy Storage North America focused on energy storage system (ESS) communications and smart grid standards and testing implementation, “Implementing and Testing Storage Systems Utilizing Common Standards for Smart Grid Deployment.”
This joint workshop will include a survey of smart grid, energy storage functions and communication standards from California, North America, and around the world. This overview will be followed by presentations on smart grid and ESS testing efforts from EPRI, University of California, San Diego (UCSD), SunSpec, Sandia Labs and the Battery Innovation Center (BIC).
The audience for this workshop includes utility communications and storage staff, project developers, equipment suppliers, software developers, system integrators, service providers and business development professional in the energy storage value chain.

The SunSpec Alliance is a trade alliance of developers, manufacturers, operators and service providers, together pursuing open information standards for the distributed energy industry. SunSpec standards address most operational aspects of PV, storage and other distributed energy power plants on the smart grid—including residential, commercial, and utility-scale systems—thus reducing cost, promoting innovation, and accelerating industry growth. Over 70 organizations are members of the SunSpec Alliance, including global leaders from Asia, Europe, and North America. Membership is open to corporations, research organizations, non-profits, and individuals. About the MESA Standards Alliance
The MESA (Modular Energy Storage Architecture) Standards Alliance is an industry group whose mission is to accelerate the growth of the energy storage industry through the development of an open, non-proprietary set of specifications and standards for energy storage systems. MESA’s component-based approach to energy storage gives electric utilities more choice, and allows battery, power converter, and software manufacturers to reach more customers and reduce costs.
